Required Education and Experience:

  • Graduation from high school or GED equivalent; and
  • One (1) year of experience in construction and/or maintenance; and
  • Must be at least 18 years of age by date of hire.

Additional Eligibility Requirements:

  • Knowledge of safety rules, accident prevention practices and traffic laws and regulations.
  • Good reading, writing, and basic math skills.
  • Ability to maintain acceptable driving record throughout employment.
  • Must establish a residence no more than a 45-minute normal response time to the City's Service Center located at 821 N. Columbus Ave.
  • Successful completion of a background investigation to the satisfaction of the City.

Available Schedule: 

  • 10 hours daily, Monday - Thursday, 


The anticipated hiring range for the Public Works Laborer position is $21.74 (first step) to $22.83 or $23.97 (second or third step).  Directly related experience and qualifications will be evaluated alongside others who perform work of comparable character as required by Pay Equity Law. Six steps are included in this salary range, allowing opportunity for annual movement through the steps.
