Assistant to the Traffic Engineer

Help shape how people move through Medford! As the Assistant to the Traffic Engineer, you will support safe and efficient travel for all modes by preparing plans for capital projects, reviewing private development proposals, analyzing traffic safety, updating signal timing, presenting at public meetings, and more. This role is a technical resource within Public Works Engineering, preparing clear reports and plans, coordinating with internal and external stakeholders, and applying multimodal transportation fundamentals aligned with the City’s Transportation System Plan and Transportation Safety Action Plan. Required Education and Experience:
- Graduation from high school or GED equivalent; and
- Five (5) years of professional experience in a transportation related field, with preference given for additional experience in traffic engineering.
- Bachelor’s degree in transportation planning, traffic engineering, or other specific area of study as deemed applicable may substitute for two (2) years of experience.
- Possession of the Fundamentals in Engineering (EIT) certificate or registration as a professional traffic or civil engineer in the State of Oregon.
- Experience in traffic engineering and operations.
- Experience in AutoCAD.
- Experience with Synchro and SimTraffic.
Available Schedules:
- 8 hours daily, Monday - Friday
- Opportunity for alternate schedule after the first 90-days:
- 9-80 (nine-hour workdays with a three-day weekend every other week)
- 4-10 (four 10-hour days with three days off each week)
- Telework up to two days/week after the probationary period (with supervisor approval)
