As the Economic Development Assistant, you’ll work side-by-side with the City’s Economic Development Director to launch innovative initiatives, craft strategic marketing campaigns, and build tools that support local businesses and attract new investment. Required Education and Experience:

  • Graduation from high school or GED equivalent; and
  • Three years of progressively responsible experience in economic development, planning, business administration, or a closely related field.
  • Bachelor’s degree in economics, urban planning, business administration, or other specific area of study as deemed applicable may substitute for two (2) years of experience.
Additional Eligibility Requirements:
Knowledge of:
  • Applicable Federal, State, and local laws, codes, and regulations.
  • Geographic, socio-economic, transportation, political, and other elements related to city economic development.
  • Redevelopment and revitalization programs; zoning, codes and development fees.
  • Economic development principles, techniques, policies, and procedures.
  • Practices of researching issues, evaluating alternatives, making sound recommendations, and preparing effective staff reports.
  • Techniques for providing a high level of customer service to the public, contractors, and City staff, in person and over the telephone.

Available Schedule and Commitment: 

  • Duration: Limited-duration position, potentially 6 months or more depending on departmental needs. 
  • Hours: Up to 24 hours per week, with some flexibility in scheduling based on candidate availability and department needs.
