Required Education and Experience:

  • Graduation from high school or GED equivalent; and
  • Must be 18 years or older by date of application.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience in fleet maintenance or vehicle maintenance.
  • Prior experience working with emergency vehicles.
  • Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) certification.
  • Emergency Vehicle Technician (EVT) certification.

Flexible Schedule: 

  • Part-time: Less than 20 hours per week, Monday–Thursday between 7:00 AM – 5:00 PM (schedule based on employee availability and department need)

Compensation & Information on Benefits:

The anticipated hiring range for the Fleet and Equipment Services Assistant position is $19.92 (first step) to $20.91 or $21.96 (second or third step). The City of Medford determines starting pay based on an evaluation of relevant education, experience, and qualifications as provided by the applicant in their application materials, alongside others who perform work of comparable character consistent with the Oregon Equal Pay Act. Three steps are included in this salary range, allowing opportunity for annual movement through the steps.

Examples of Job Duties:
Essential Functions of the Position:
  • Reviews fleet status, analyzes fleet equipment usage, and makes recommendations to the fleet and equipment coordinator.
  • Schedules and coordinates routine maintenance and repairs for all police vehicles.
  • Maintains records of service history and ensures compliance with maintenance schedules.
  • Works with service providers to optimize maintenance efficiency and manage vendor relationships.
  • Transports department owned vehicles to and from maintenance shops and vendors.
  • Track progress of vehicles being outfitted and ensure timely completion.
  • Collaborate with external vendors to ensure specifications and quality standards are met.
  • Conducts inspections for damage or mechanical problems.
  • Issue new and replacement equipment for fleet.
  • Assists in maintaining an up-to-date inventory of fleet equipment.
  • Implement tracking systems for all equipment to ensure accountability and reporting.
  • Prepare reports and assist in documenting procedures for fleet and equipment administration.
  • Ensure fleet and equipment activities comply with local, state, and federal regulations.
  • Keeps coordinator accurately informed concerning work progress, including present and potential work problems and suggestions for new or improved ways of addressing such problems.
  • The scope of the assigned area will depend on the departmental structure and is as the discretion of the department director.
