Required Education and Experience:
- Graduation from high school or GED equivalent; and
- Two (2) years of equipment operation, general construction, maintenance experience, or combination to successfully perform the duties of the job.
- Completion of a one (1) year Construction Technology certificate program may substitute for one (1) year of experience.
- Knowledge of applicable state and local vehicle ordinances; weight limit capacities; civil construction and maintenance practices; occupational hazards and related safety precautions; etc.
- Possession of a Class A Oregon Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) with a tanker endorsement or the ability to obtain CDL and tanker endorsement within one year of hire date.
- New employees establishing resident status in the State of Oregon must obtain an Oregon driver’s license within 30 days (ORS 807.020 (1)).
- Maintaining a CDL is a condition of employment.
- Ability to maintain acceptable driving record throughout employment.
Must be a minimum of 18 years old by time of hire.
- Must live within a 60-minute response time from the City's Service Center located at 821 N. Columbus Ave.
- Wastewater Collections System Operator certification.
- Experience in repair, replacement, or maintenance of piped utility systems.
- Previous public works experience.
- Certified flagger, TCT, and TCS
- Experience with traffic control.
- First Aid and CPR certified.
- Experience operating heavy equipment including: excavators, backhoes, graders, and paving equipment.
Available Schedule:
- Monday - Thursday, 6:00 AM - 4:30 PM
- Employees in this position are often required to adjust to earlier start times to accommodate working in high traffic areas.

Scheduled salary increases and a potential 3.0% Cost of Living Adjustment (COLA) are anticipated effective July 1, 2025
The anticipated hiring range for the Public Works Technician position is $26.48 (first step) to $27.80 or $29.19 (second or third step). The City of Medford determines starting pay based on an evaluation of relevant education, experience, and qualifications as provided by the applicant in their application materials, alongside others who perform work of comparable character consistent with the Oregon Equal Pay Act. Six steps are included in this salary range, allowing opportunity for annual movement through the steps. Healthcare Benefits:
