You'll learn how a local Planning Department works behind the scenes—attending commission meetings, scanning project files, mailing public notices, and supporting our team in day-to-day operations. Required Education and Experience:

Currently a high school senior, or enrolled in or recently completed a GED, college, or other academic program

Basic computer literacy, including familiarity with email, word processing, and digital file management

Ability to follow written and verbal instructions accurately

Availability to work the assigned part-time schedule during the internship period


Preferred Qualifications:

Strong attention to detail and accuracy in completing tasks

Experience using Adobe Acrobat Pro (or similar PDF editing software)

General keyboarding/data entry skills

Prior experience working with office equipment, such as a copier or scanner

Ability to manage routine tasks independently and ask questions when clarification is needed

Available Schedule: 
  • Monday - Thursday, 6–8 hours daily (24–30 hours per week)

Examples of Job Duties:
These duties are a representative example; position assignments may vary depending on the business needs of the department and organization. This position:  

Scans and archives project files, including naming and saving digital versions to project folders and the records retention system

Boxes and prepares scanned paper files for permanent storage

Maintains current project filing systems

Prepares and stuffs envelopes for mailing public notices

Sets up new project files

Assists with preparing for and attending Commission meetings

Prints large-format copies of meeting agendas

Performs other general administrative tasks as assigned

Works in a professional office environment and collaborates closely with Planning staff to support daily operations and special projects
