We’re hiring 14 part-time Seasonal Engineering Technicians to collect real-time traffic data that supports safer, smarter transportation planning. You’ll be out in the field—rain or shine—tracking turning movements at key intersections and using digital tally equipment (training provided). This is a great opportunity for someone who’s observant, self-motivated, and reliable with strong attention to detail.

Required Education and Experience:

  • Graduation from high school or GED equivalent.
  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Work with minimum supervision.
  • Follow oral, written and drawn instructions.
  • Familiarity with city streets and intersections.
  • Relate to the general public in a positive manner.

Available Schedules: 

This is a part-time position working three days per week (Tuesday–Thursday). Two shift options are available:

  • Morning Shift
    5:30 AM – 12:15 PM

  • Afternoon Shift
    12:00 PM – 6:30 PM

  • Support Shift
    8:00 AM – 5:45 PM *May vary based on daily need.  

Shift assignments will be determined based on operational needs during the hiring process.

Compensation & Information on Benefits:

The anticipated hiring range for the Traffic Data Collector position is $16.79 (first step) or $17.62 (second step). The City of Medford determines starting pay based on an evaluation of relevant education, experience, and qualifications as provided by the applicant in their application materials, alongside others who perform work of comparable character consistent with the Oregon Equal Pay Act. Three steps are included in this salary range, allowing opportunity for annual movement through the steps.

Examples of Job Duties:
These duties are a representative example; position assignments may vary depending on the business needs of the department and organization. This position:  
  • Monitor traffic and manually tally vehicle movements using traffic counting device.
  • Performing testing to ensure equipment is in working order.
  • Working primarily outdoors in Right of Way areas.
  • Assisting engineering staff in a variety of daily tasks or special projects.
  • Demonstrate good written communication skills and perform detailed note taking.
  • Upholds the values of the organization and has strong customer service orientation.
  • Must have the ability to handle job stress and interact effectively with others in the workplace.
